Saudi Arabia has been ranked first among the G20 countries for personal safety. According to the Safety Index for 2025, published on 29th June 2026, 97.7 per cent of the country’s population feel safe walking alone at night near their homes.
The ranking is based on data reported by individual countries in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Indicators Database and also based on comparisons using the 2023 Safety Index.
Among men aged 15 and above, 97 per cent reported feeling safe. Meanwhile, 94.9 per cent of adult women reported feeling safe, with 81.7 per cent saying they felt very safe in their neighbourhoods.
Older adults have also reported higher levels of perceived safety. Approximately 97 per cent of respondents aged between 60 and 64 reported feeling safe walking alone at night.
Those aged 65 and above accounted for the largest proportion of respondents who reported feeling very safe, at 89.6 per cent.
The General Authority for Statistics has reported that its statistical outputs are produced on a unified methodology. This methodology is, in turn, based on the Statistical Business Process Manual and is aligned with globally recognised practices adopted by major statistical organisations.
The results reinforce Saudi Arabia’s status as a major destination for tourists and visitors, and a high-quality place to live for its residents.
