As the new academic year gets underway, students in Riyadh have another practical benefit to look forward to. Eligible students can now receive a 50 per cent discount on Riyadh Metro tickets, making daily journeys across the capital more affordable.
The discounted fares are available as part of the network’s student travel offering, with a new semester pass also introduced at SAR 260. If purchased during the current offer period, the pass remains valid until Wednesday, 30 December 2026, providing students with a convenient option for regular travel throughout the semester.
The 50 per cent discount also applies to eligible ticket categories, giving students flexibility depending on how often they use the metro.
How To Use the Student Discount
Passengers can plan journeys and purchase tickets through the Darb app, buy passes directly from metro stations or use bank cards at station gates.
For students travelling regularly between home, university and other parts of the city, the metro offers a practical alternative to driving. It is particularly useful as the network connects many of Riyadh’s major residential, educational, commercial and government areas.
The Riyadh Metro covers six main lines and 84 stations, covering a distance of 176 kilometres. The network covers most highly populated districts, government facilities, and key educational and commercial areas.

The network includes the Blue Line along Olaya and Batha’a, the Red Line along King Abdullah Road and the Orange Line connecting Al Madinah Al Monawara with Prince Saad bin Abdul Rahman Al Awal Road.
The Yellow Line serves the King Khalid International Airport Road, while the Green Line runs along King Abdulaziz Road and the Purple Line connects Abdulrahman bin Auf Road with Sheikh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali Road.
With the student discount now available, the metro is set to become an even more useful option for youth navigating the Saudi capital during the new academic year.
