Riyadh Quality of Life Gets Global Recognition in New Index

Riyadh has officially joined the Global Quality of Life Index, a worldwide initiative developed by the Quality of Life Program Center in partnership with UN-Habitat.

The move highlights the capital’s ongoing efforts to improve everyday life and strengthen its position among the world’s best cities. The index looks at key aspects of urban living, from health and well-being to the environment, as well as the economic and social opportunities available to residents.

Other qualitative and quantitative indicators of Riyadh quality of life include housing, public transportation, public services, green zones for the public, safety, and mental and physical health.

Generally, Riyadh scores very high on safety and security, with low crime rates and strong public safety frameworks. Healthcare is also a top scorer on the metrics. High standards of physical and mental health infrastructure support growing national life expectancy.

The Saudi capital’s strongest point is its purchasing power and economy. Favourable economic opportunities lead to better employment and good income-to-property ratios.

Where the city falls behind slightly is its overall urban environment and climate, with moderate to low scores. However, negative climate impacts and high summer temperatures are being addressed, with ongoing expansions in green spaces and sustainable urban planning.

This is precisely why Riyadh is increasingly adopting the best practices when it comes to urban planning and city development, especially working towards more sustainable and liveable cities. This also falls in line with the objectives of Vision 2030, which aims to make the capital one of the leading cities in the world to live, work, and invest in.
