A new phase of the Taif Road Development Project has been launched by The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC). Plans for Riyadh Taif Road include a major bridge and road improvements that will improve traffic flow and increase the road’s capacity to approximately 200,000 vehicles in a day.
The project includes the construction of a bridge measuring 311 metres in length and 36 metres in width at the intersection of Taif Road and Taibah Street. The extension will run from the Taif Road to Najd Street intersection in the west to the Western Ring Road in the east.
The upgrades to Riyadh Taif Road will also bring in pedestrian bridges that offer safe crossing points for improved road safety. After completion. the 15-kilometre corridor will have four main lanes in each direction, thereby cutting down on travel time.
To ensure minimal disruption during the construction phase, the RCRC has introduced a new traffic management plan. This includes a three-lane diversion in each direction at the Taif Road to Taibah Street intersection, which has been effective from 31 July.
Digital platforms and navigation apps will also be updated with real-time information on traffic diversions, allowing drivers to plan their journeys better along temporary alternative routes.
The upgrades, especially with the wider lanes, the new bridge, and supporting infrastructure, are designed to make daily journeys smoother and accommodate growing transport demand along one of Riyadh’s key traffic corridors.
