Al Qadsiah vs Al Hilal Could Open the New Aramco Stadium

Aramco Stadium is getting closer to opening its doors, and reports suggest its first match could be one of the biggest fixtures on the Saudi football calendar.

Al Qadsiah are expected to face Al Hilal in the opening game at the new Al Khobar venue, although the fixture and opening date have not yet been officially confirmed. If the reports prove correct, it would give the stadium a suitably high-profile start and bring supporters from across the Kingdom to the Eastern Province.

The timing makes sense. Al Qadsiah are preparing to move into their new home as the 2026-2027 Roshn Saudi League season approaches, following a strong campaign in which they finished fourth. The club also ended the season with five straight wins and recorded a 17-match unbeaten league run under Brendan Rodgers.

Aramco Stadium has been designed to hold 47,000 spectators and will become Al Qadsiah’s permanent home. Its curved exterior was inspired by the whirlpools and waves of the nearby coast, giving the building a shape that feels closely tied to Al Khobar rather than copied from another stadium.

The wider development covers more than 800,000 square metres and includes training fields, sports tracks, parking, retail spaces, a public park and a dedicated fan zone. A fully integrated cooling system is also intended to keep conditions comfortable for players and supporters, including during warmer months.

This will not be a stadium used only on league match days. Aramco Stadium has already been selected to host matches during the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and is also part of Saudi Arabia’s plans for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The project forms part of the Kingdom’s wider investment in sport and entertainment under Vision 2030.

For Al Qadsiah supporters, however, the immediate excitement is much simpler: a new home is almost ready. An opening match against Al Hilal would place the stadium in the spotlight from its first night. Until the fixture is confirmed, fans will have to wait a little longer, but the start of a new football era in Al Khobar now feels very close.
